Global Warming

global warming Glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising, cloud forests are drying, and wildlife is scrambling to keep pace.”

It's becoming clear that humans have caused most of the past century's warming by releasing heat-trapping gases as we power our modern lives, called greenhouse gases, their levels are higher now than in the last 650,000 years.

We Amitabha Buddhist Society call this result as global warming, but it is causing a set of changes to the Earth's climate or long-term weather patterns, that varies from place to place. We want you to know, As the Earth spins each day, the new heat swirls with it, picking up moisture over the oceans, rising here, settling there. It's changing the rhythms of climate that all living things have come to rely upon.

Basically, Global Warming is the increase in the average temperature of Earth's near-surface air and oceans. We have found out that global surface temperature increased by 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the 20th century. It is the result of burning of fossil fuel and deforestation. We at ABS, spread word of mouth to stop these activities. We also conduct sessions for the same.

Our planet’s atmosphere is warming up rapidly. ABS has found out that emissions from human activities have caused this unnatural change.

What will we do to slow this warming? How will we cope with the changes we've already set into motion? While we struggle to figure it all out, the face of the Earth as we know it—coasts, forests, farms and snow-capped mountains—hangs in the balance. But, fortunately, everyone can be a part of the solution in slowing down global warming. We, at ABS spread knowledge about methods of reducing global warming. We also conduct open sessions in which we have slide shows to give realization to common people about the causes and effects of global warming. WE at ABS takes combined efforts to make a significant difference to the same.

“Global warming is too serious for the world any longer to ignore its danger or split into opposing factions on it.”

The greenhouse effect makes the earth appropriate for people to live on.  Without it, the earth would be freezing, or on the other hand it would be burning hot. The more greenhouse gases are in the atmosphere, the more heat gets trapped. So, We at ABS encourage and support the plantation of more and more green houses.

Hence the greenhouse effect plays an important role to avoid global warming. Apart from this even we can play a vital part of the climate change solution. We at ABS ensure that government recognizes the importance of global warming and follow through on their promises. ABS also ensures that consumers, support companies that are making the biggest strides in fighting climate change and encourage other companies to make reducing greenhouse gases a priority. We also encourage people to join a group dedicated to spreading the word about global warming. We also guide people to make changes in daily life, some that seem small, some less so — that cut back on the carbon emissions for which we’re responsible.

We at ABS also guide on few steps to:

  • Make your home more energy efficient: Better insulate your roof, basement, and walls; seal your windows; and replace your old light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs.
  • Reduce the amount of garbage you produce: Take a reusable bag with you when you shop, buy unpackaged goods, and recycle and reuse materials.
  • Using energy wisely: Turn off lights and appliances when you’re not using them, use the air conditioner less in the summer, and turn down the heat in the winter.

Another thing that causes global warming is electrical pollution.  Electricity causes pollution in many ways. In most cases, fossil fuels are burned to create electricity. Many pollutants are sent into the air when fossil fuels are burned. These chemicals are called greenhouse gasses. We at ABS convey this to common people to take measures to SAVE ELECTRICITY. This plays a major role to reduce global warming. We at ABS also distribute pamphlets as a medium to spread the message of global warming and steps to avoid it.

The future level of global warming is uncertain, but a wide range of estimates (projections) have been made.   The range in temperature projections partly reflects different projections of future social and economic development, which in turn affects projections of greenhouse gas emissions. The range also reflects uncertainty in the response of the climate system to past and future GHG emissions.

"Global warming is the most severe problem that we are facing today, more serious even than the threat of terrorism."

As a result, ABS is teaching and introducing to people, the causes of global warming and how to overcome it.  Global dimming, a reduction of sunlight reaching the surface as a result of increasing atmospheric concentrations of human-made particulates, has partially countered the effects of warming induced by greenhouse gases.

We at ABS also convey the importance of forestry, and avoiding machines which cause green gases. WE at ABS also guide them on methods of prevention on global warming, rising temperature and deforestation.
