Water Harvesting

water harvesting Rainwater Harvesting and Groundwater Recharge – a sustainable approach to human development at the global level.

Rainwater harvesting is the accumulating and storing of rainwater for reuse, before it reaches the aquifer. It has been used to provide drinking water, water for livestock, water for irrigation, as well as other typical uses given to water. Rainwater collected from the roofs of houses, tents and local institutions can make an important contribution to the availability of drinking water. It can supplement the sub soil water level and increase urban greenery. Water collected from the ground, sometimes from areas which are especially prepared for this purpose, is called Storm water harvesting. We at Amitabha Buddhist Society strongly promote Rainwater harvesting and Storm water harvesting.

In some cases, rainwater may be the only available or economical water source. Rainwater harvesting systems can be simple to construct from inexpensive local materials and are potentially successful in most habitable locations. Roof rainwater can't be of good quality and may average rainfall. We at ABS, provide advance technical water harvesting project in these areas.

Rainwater may also be used for groundwater recharge, where the runoff on the ground is collected and allowed to be absorbed, adding to the groundwater.

Places where a percentage of rainfall is very low, We provide help for increasing underground water level, water for agriculture purpose, forestry, etc.. In such places, water requires treatment before consumption. As rainwater rushes from your roof it may carry impurities. Although some rooftop materials may produce rainwater that is harmful to human health, it can be useful in flushing toilets, washing clothes, watering the garden and washing cars; these uses alone halve the amount of water used by a typical home.

ABS want you to know, as the water crisis continues to become severe, there is a dire need of reform in water management system and revival of traditional systems. Scientific and technological studies need to be carried out to assess present status so as to suggest suitable mitigative measures for the revival to traditional system/wisdom. We at ABS promote such Scientific and technological studies.

ABS wish to impart the fact that, Living creatures of the universe are made of five basic elements, viz., Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Sky, Obviously, water is one of the most important elements and no creature can survive without it. Despite having a great regard for water, we seem to have failed to address this sector seriously. Human being could not save and conserve water and it sources, probably because of its availability in abundance. But this irresponsible attitude resulted in deterioration of water bodies with respect to quantity and quality both. Now, situation has arrived when even a single drop of water matters. However, “better late than never".

Demand for water is growing in most cities as every urban citizen requires almost double the amount of water that a rural citizen requires. We at ABS,conduct sessions to give realization to urban citizens on stop wastage of water. We also put up banners on streets so that people read and start saving water.

We at ABS, give small tips where we can utilize water economically so that we leave water for the coming generations too. We at ABS, also promote artificial recharge of ground water whereby the ground water reservoirs. Any man-made scheme or facility that adds water to an aquifer may be considered to be an artificial recharge system.

There are two main techniques of rain water harvestings:

  • Storage of rainwater on surface for future use.
  • Recharge to ground water.

We at ABS believe that if we all put our hands together and start using water wisely, we will soon overcome the problem of water shortage. For this purpose people need to be educated enough so that they understand the importance of water. We at ABS, help them educate themselves. We enroll them in school etc.

We at ABS, also import all good technology for out water harvesting project and we also provide financial supports for above working.

“High quality water is more than the dream of the conservationists, more than a political slogan; high quality water, in the right quantity at the right place at the right time, is essential to health, recreation, and economic growth”
